Mithra est un dieu d’origine indo-iranienne. Son nom – mitra en védique, langue religieuse ancienne de l’Inde – signifie « ami », « contrat ». C’est un dieu bienveillant, qui protège la justice et veille à l’ordre du monde ; c’est aussi le dieu du serment, de l’alliance.
