Les fonctions de la sérotonine sont nombreuses et encore peu décrites pour certaines. Elle est impliquée notamment dans la régulation des comportements, l’humeur, l’anxiété ou encore l’apprentissage. Elle serait également impliquée dans la motivation et la prise de décision.
Qui fabrique la sérotonine ?
La sérotonine est synthétisée par un groupe de neurones spécifiques qu’on appelle pour cette raison neurones sérotoninergiques. Au niveau d’une synapse, lorsque la sérotonine est libérée par l’extrémité d’un neurone, elle peut être recapturée par le neurone qui l’a synthétisée ou bien dégradée en un sous-produit.
